Wells are a huge part of Biblical history. There’s only one freshwater lake in the whole country of Israel, so people retreived water for drinking, cleaning, and cooking daily. Wells were a source of life and a central piece of community. In this series, we look at different wells mentioned in the Old and New Testament. Our story today, from the book of Numbers, shows the Israelites traveling through the wilderness. They left Egypt 38 years ago, and were camped between two lands belonging to their enemies. God promised to bring them water, and they found, dug, and celebrated over the well. Like the Israelites, we will encounter dry and wilderness seasons in life where God feels far away, growth feels slow, or nothing happens like we hoped. These moments require that we dig in and continue practicing and growing our faith, depend on God more than our work, and worship in the process. There’s a well in every wilderness, if we are willing to work and see what God has prepared for us.

What might God be calling you to “dig into” during this season?
