Watching someone pass on from life humbles us and reminds us how short and temporary life is. The final words we hear, and will eventually share, mean so much. Our guest speaker shared Joshua’s final words from the Old Testament, and how they show both a life for us to live and final words to share. We gather around God’s story, we rid our homes of sin, and make the decision today that we – as individuals and as families – will serve the Lord all our lives.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
-
Do you have a moment of sharing or recieving final words with someone else? What do you remember feeling impacted by?
-
There are many ways to gather around God’s story – spending time daily reading the Bible, modeling Scripture to our children and friends, sharing what God has done, and making church a priority. Which of those feels most natural to you? Which of those feels more difficult?
-
What habits or tendencies do you want to change in yourself or in your family? How can you partner with God to see change in those areas?
-
Challenge: take some time with your family, or if you’re single, some time alone with God, to talk about this decision to serve the Lord as a family. Pray together, share how God has impacted your life, and read over Joshua 24:15. In this season, what does serving God look like? What may change, and what will not?
