As Christians, Scripture drives us. The Bible serves as the foundation for what we believe, helps us walk out that belief, redirects us if we waver, and informs our new identify as children of God. Scripture talks about us being “sojourners” and travelers, citizens of another kingdom, on earth for only a short time. We as Christians are sent into the world to proclaim the Gospel. Yes, God may call some of us to be global missionaries, to leave home and minister to new people in a new place. But the goal of missions, to know God and make Him known to others, unites and should excite Christians around the world. We are all sent.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
-
What is your perspective on missions? What is or has been your previous involvement with missions?
-
What comes to mind when you consider yourself “sent” by God?
-
What hesitations or fears might stop you from being missional where you already are?
-
The Bible has this idea of “here, near, and far” when it comes to missions, taken from Acts 1, when Jesus says his disciples will be his witnesses “in Jerusalem (where they currently were), in Judea and Samaria (the area around them), and to the end of the earth.” Who is someone “near” you, that you could start up a faith conversation with, invite to church or Life Group, or serve in some way this week?
