Trust – a hard-earned, easily-lost resource that we give and take away. But a lack of trust creates division and distance between us and others. In the story of Sampson and Delilah, we read how Sampson previously encountered deceit from his wife, and because of that now distrusts his lover, Delilah. He does a hard thing and eventually trusts her – a breakthrough for him, even if the story doesn’t end well. We, as Christians, are called to trust. Ultimately in Christ, but also in the people around us. We don’t practice a blind or uninformed trust. We look less at who we’re trusting and more at how we trust – seeking understanding, discerning motives, knowing a person’s ability, knowing a person’s character, and remembering their track record.

What makes it easier for you to trust someone? What makes it harder?

Would other people consider you “trustworthy?” Why or why not?

Who, or in what ways, might God be calling you to trust more?
