More than any other emotion, anger often leads us to act or say things in the moment that we later regret. But God doesn’t call us to be emotionless people. Emotions – anger included – aren’t sinful. We do need to be aware of our actions, especially in emotional situations, and watch that they don’t give footholds to sin. We can follow Jesus’s example of how to process our anger: pausing, reflecting, loving instead of hurting, and ultimately letting our anger motivate us to positive, loving action to fix those things that make us angry.
Discussion/Reflection Questions:
When was a time you said or did something in anger?
Where is your anger often directed towards? (ex., a specific person, group, situation, or system) Does that anger cause division or affect your relationships?
What things do you see in the world that make you angry?
What positive, loving actions might God be calling you to make to fix those things?
